I recently purchased these reins. I have a 4 beat saddle which I’m in love with, but the reins are a bit heavier/chunkier than I was expecting. Over time I’m sure they’ll soften but the chunkiness adds to the stiffness and makes them more difficult to work with. Would prefer if they were a bit thinner in design.

The leather we use for our reins, and all our leather products, is high quality, which does tend to be more stiff when new than other lower grade and/or melded leathers.
However, the break-in period is quick, and you can oil them as much as you would like, and they do turn buttery-soft in very short order :)

Been riding with the second generation Imus Comfort Gate Bit for a couple of weeks. Then I experimented, went back to a old snaffle bit. Snaffle bit was a constant fight, head shaking, stiffness in the body. Bridled with Imus comfort gate bit again. Seen a big improvement! A relaxed mouth and body, no more head shaking, Reigning much better. Also, I bought a bridal, and reigns with the bit. They were high quality leather.
Will be buying again for my second horse.
